Spring Forward

“Anything goes, as long as you can pull it off.”  Tomas Maier, Bottega Veneta
Just as my white shirt needed some accouterments to spice it up, this shirt/tie combination inspired by a nice spring day needs to be toned down to avoiding turning too many heads at the office. Here I'm starting with complimentary pastels--a pink button down collar dress shirt/pastel green and blue printed silk tie--basics for a clambake but not the boardroom to be sure.

But a navy blazer and gray flannel trousers can turn a preppy uniform a into a youthful, light-hearted look that's put together yet business appropriate--especially on a nice day.

Gray flannel trousers are a conservative office standard, bringing the outfit back from the beach and into the office, but still coordinate smartly with pastels.

A navy blazer keeps the country club aesthetic but further tones down the bright pastels, creating a playful yet professional look.  With a jaunty linen pocket square peeking out, I've continued my saltwater theme, broken up the navy, and made the outfit appear complete.  Worn with confidence, I don't think anyone will give a second thought to this ensemble.
